Am I required to file a tex return?

Usually not. If your only source of income was employed work and you have no other income to declare than you are not required to file a tax return. However, in almost every case you are getting money back.

When am I required to file a tax return?

If you have worked as a contractor and have not been deducted tax yet, you are required to file a tax return. Also, if you have been self-employed, you need to file one.

Can you find out if I am required to file a tax return?

Of course, we even do it for FREE.

Is my information secure?

Absolutely. At eTax Refunds we respect the privacy of our clients. This is why we do not only have our own New Zealand based privacy officer but are also working together with privacy officers from Germany to maintain a privacy level superior to the New Zealand standard. We are only allowed to disclose information to a third party based on a law or judicial order.

Why do you need my IRD number?

Your IRD number identifies you uniquely in our correspondence with the Inland Revenue, and is therefor required to get active.

Where do I find my IRD number?

Your IRD number is printed on a little card or every letter you have received from the Inland Revenue. It is also printed on every pay slip you receive. If you cannot find your IRD number just contact IRD and they are happy to help you out.

What do you need my email address and phone number for?

We will communicate mainly through email with you and for that we utilize your email address. Your phone number might be used for a 2 factor authentication or to check back if you have received your refund.

What do you need my address details for?

We are required to hold a current address for the case you decide you do not want us to be your tax agent anymore. In that case we are legally required to inform IRD about your recent whereabouts.

What do you need my Photo ID for?

Your Photo ID is required to prevent fraud and to comply with current Anti Money Laundering Law.

What if my personal details change?

In case your circumstances are changing, please contact us to update your details.

What if I have a question that is not answered anywhere on the website.

Feel free to contact us regarding any question that might come up. Our advise is always for free.

When is the best time to apply?

Always. Applications are processed during the entire year.

The New Zealand tax year goes from 01/04 to 31/03 the following year. Inland Revenue releases the refunds for the current year usually 3 month after the end of that financial year.

What if I have to pay tax?

We will only file tax returns for years in which we have assessed a refund for your. So far, none of our clients faced a tax bill to pay.

What does it cost?

19 % of your refund.

We have a no refund no fee policy. That means, if you are getting no refund we will not charge you at all.

How long does it take?

Depending on your personal circumstances it can take 2 to 12 weeks to finish the refund process. The waiting time is solely depending on Inland Revenue.

Can I apply for a year that has not ended, yet?

Yes, if you are leaving New Zealand before the end of the financial year, we can file an early return for you. In order to do that, we need  some sort of proof that you really intend to leave the country, e. g. a flight ticket or a travel itinerary, which has been paid for.

How much can I expect to get refunded?

The exact amount of your refund depends on many factors, such as your New Zealand tax residency, your pay rate, the number of jobs you have worked in, the amount of time you were working during the year and if your employer deducted your tax correctly.

Is eTax refunds a secure service?

Absolutely. The way we protect your personal and tax information does not only comply with the New Zealand privacy and information security standards but also with the much stricter laws of Germany and the European Union.

How do I receive my refund?

Your refund can be transferred to any New Zealand or overseas bank account anywhere in the world.

Can I receive my tax refund to an overseas bank account?

Yes. We can transfer your tax refund to virtually any bank account in the world. Please note that for transfers to accounts outside of New Zealand we will charge a small fee of $10. Transfers to New Zealand bank account are of course for free.

What if I have a business or a rental property?

Our service does not cover income from businesses or rental properties. But feel free to contact us and get a quote for this case.

How do I pay the fee?

The fee is automatically deducted from your refund. The amount transferred to your account is yours to keep.

Who is Lower Decks Limited?

Lower Decks Limited is the legal name of the company providing the easiest tax refund service in New Zealand, that’s us :-)

What is this letter I received from Inland Revenue?

This is a generic letter from Inland Revenue informing your that you that we are allowed to access your tax records. The company mentioned in this letter is Lower Decks Limited, which is the legal name of the company behind New Zealand’s cheapest tax refund service.

What is a tax year?

A tax year is the basic time interval for which all your tax is calculated. In New Zealand the tax year starts on 01 April and ends on the 31 March.

Can I also make claims for my donations?

Yes. You will be able to get back 33 % of whatever money you donated to charitable organizations. Simply submit your donation receipt during the application.

Can I receive my refund as a cheque?

No. Due to security reasons we only transfer your refund electronically to any bank account in the world.

How can I cancel this service?

Simply contact us and drop us a line that would no longer like to use our services. This is possible at any time and we promise we won’t be angry.

How likely is it that I get a refund?

According to our statistics, more than 96 % of the people that have applied with us got a refund.

How much time takes the application?
